Smooth Break Detection and De-Trending in Unit Root Testing

چکیده
This study explores the methods to de-trend smooth structural break processes while conducting unit root tests. The two most commonly applied approaches for modelling breaks namely transition and Fourier functions are considered. We perform a sequence of power comparisons among alternative tests that accommodate or sharp breaks. experiments demonstrate utilizing function lead unexpected results. Furthermore, through simulation studies, we investigate source such outcomes. Moreover, provide asymptotic distribution recently proposed tests, Fourier-Augmented Dickey–Fuller (FADF) Fourier-Kapetanios, Shin Shell (FKSS), which not given in original studies. Lastly, find selection de-trending is pivotal testing with

Trend Break or Unit Root in GDP of Iran
It has been suggested that existing estimates of the long-run impact of a surprise move in income may have a substantial upward bias due to the presence of a trend break in 1970s (1350s) and 1980s (1360s) gross domestic product (contained oil) data of Iran. This article shows that the statistical evidence does not warrant abandoning the no-trend-break null hypothesis at the 5% significance leve...
متن کاملUnit root testing under a local break in trend
Recent approaches to testing for a unit root when uncertainty exists over the presence and timing of a trend break employ break detection methods, so that a with-break unit root test is used only if a break is detected by some auxiliary statistic. While these methods achieve near asymptotic e ciency in both xed trend break and no trend break environments, in nite samples pronounced \valleys" in...
متن کاملOn Testing for Randomized Unit Root and Seasonal Unit Root
A lot of time series analysis in economics and nance is to determine whether a unit root and/or seasonal unit root is present in the data. These tests are usually based on unit root tests orginally developed by Dickey & Fuller(1981). Testing for the presence of a seasonal root has been considered by Dickey, Hasza & Fuller (1984). Li(1991) considered tests for the existence of a seasonal and a r...
متن کاملTesting for a unit root in the presence of a possible break in trend
We consider the issue of testing a time series for a unit root in the possible presence of a break in a linear deterministic trend at an unknown point in the series. We propose a new break fraction estimator which, where a break in trend occurs, is consistent for the true break fraction at rate Op(T). Unlike other available estimators, however, when there is no trend break our estimator converg...
متن کاملTrend Estimation and De-trending
An account is given of a variety of linear filters which can be used for extracting trends from economic time series and for generating de-trended series. A family of rational square-wave filters is described which enable designated frequency ranges to be selected or rejected. Their use is advocated in preference to other filters which are commonly used in quantitative economic analysis.
